When daylight savings ends it starts to get dark pretty early and you can often find yourself arriving home in the dark. You have to navigate the slippery path, maybe some steps, probably carrying some shopping or groceries, find your house key and then fumble around trying to get the door unlocked lock, all in near darkness. You probably wish you left a light on when you went out, but it was broad daylight then and it didn’t even cross your mind. Besides, who wants to leave a light running for hours, burning up power in the daytime?
The answer to this problem is to install a sensor light. A sensor light is basically a combination of an infrared movement detector and a light fitting. The sensor is just a switch that’s activated by heat and movement to turn on the light.
The sensor and the light are often combined into the one fitting but you are not limited to just the standard twin floodlight set up. A stand alone sensor can be installed to control existing lights, or any new light fitting of your choice. The sensor and the light don’t need to be installed close to each other and the sensor can operate more than one light.
The sensors are adjustable for sensitivity, and have a timer to control how long they stay on, from a couple of minutes to half an hour or so. The sensors also make sure the lights don’t switch on during the day.
A sensor light can be installed without a switch as the sensor itself is a switch. You can install an override switch if you want to turn on the light without having to trigger the sensor, or to leave it on all night.
So, no need to stumble around in the dark, tripping over stuff and struggling with your keys. Install some sensor lights and have your front door, back door and garage safely and brightly lit every time you arrive home. You have plenty of light to see you safely inside your home and then the lights will turn themselves off automatically, saving you power and money.
Don’t forget, besides being convenient for you, they are also a great security device. If unwanted visitors approach your home or garage in the middle of the night the lights switch on automatically placing the intruder right in the spotlight.
